The Taxonomy Research & Information Network
Welcome!
The
National Taxonomy Research & Information Network (TRIN) aims to enhance and accelerate taxonomic research and delivery of information on Australia's biodiversity, with broad goals to:
- Reinvigorate taxonomy in Australia
- Evaluate and road test new methodologies for research and delivery of taxonomic information for a wide range of end users
- Create and maintain a modern collaborative national electronic framework for taxonomic knowledge exchange.
This Wiki is intended to provide a medium for Network researchers to collaborate with each other and with researchers all over the world.
From here you can visit the resources for each project group:

Links to other taxonomic projects and resources on the web
There are many resources available on the internet relevant to the TRIN.
This page will take you to a developing, categorised list of these resources.

General Discussion
General discussion of the TRIN, its scope, objectives, operation, products, resources and overall progress and impact.
Management
Taxonomy Network management and governance matters.
Communication and Knowledge Exchange
Knowledge brokers and researchers collaborating with key user groups to develop suitable taxonomic products and services, enabling broad adoption and application in environmental management and decision-making.
Ants
Morphology and molecular analysis contributing to research on the ant genera
Camponotus,
Iridomyrmex and
Monomorium.
Aquatic Macroinvertebrates
Barcoding technologies and morphological research on Mayflies and other aquatic macroinvertebrates which are widely used for monitoring freshwater quality.
Insect Family Key
Identification tools for Australia's insect families provided on the web; many of these are being developed as user friendly interactive keys.
Mangrove Communities
Documentation of plant, animal and fungi species level biodiversity of mangrove and salt march communities of the Australian region.
Small Terrestrial Vertebrates
Molecular and morphological analyses to rapidly resolve the taxonomy of various small terrestrial Australian mammals, reptiles and amphibians.
Systematics of Environmental Weeds
Research on environmental weeds of national significance for which there is a taxonomic impediment to developing appropriate control strategies.
Taxonomy Hub Research Information Systems (HubRIS)
Information managers working with taxonomists and the biological collections to develop effective and productive processes to capture, manage, analyse and deliver biodiversity information.
Documentation of the Taxonomic Process
Phases and tasks in the taxonomic process and associated work flow are being analysed and
documented. The goal of the exercise is to develop an operational framework for taxonomy focussing on aspects where information management technology can assist the process. Managed as part of the Hub Research information Systems Project, this project is working in collaboration with all other taxonomy research projects.
To Participate
TRIN welcomes groups wishing to initiate new collaborative taxonomy research projects, of who wish to use the on-line collaboration and communcation tools of the Taxonomy Hub (website, wiki, email lists, etc.).
