Project 7 - Communication and Knowledge Exchange7.1: Communication
Challenges
TRIN's communication team aims to stimulate a common purpose and develop commitment to improving the taxonomic process, generating and delivering information to users more efficiently and effectively. Developing effective communication and exchange of information between projects within TRIN is part of the challenge.
Seeking solutions
Communication activities in TRIN will work towards achieving three goals:
- Involvement and Engagement with taxonomy is fostered and expanded. Groups are operating more efficiently and with increased capacity in the field of taxonomy and are adopting practices sustainably supporting and accelerating taxonomic research and application.
- Information Exchange in the field of taxonomy is readily accessible, coordinated, well managed and generating increased understanding of Australia's biota.
- Communication Networks adopt modern practices and accelerate effective dialogue.
Approaches
The communication team has worked with the other TRIN researchers to develop an integrated communication strategy for the network. Each project team will refer to the strategic communication strategy in developing the communication element of their specific project work plans.
The development of the TRIN website is seen as a priority, providing the primary means of network communication. Each project is developing regular updates for the "what’s new" item on the index page of the website.
A TRIN wiki collaborative work space has been constructed to facilitate communications between all participants and collaborators. The wiki includes web pages for each project.
Collaboration
Key linkages are established and maintained between researchers and projects within the network so that effective communication and exchange of ideas are fully explored to enable dispersed institutions around the country to effectively collaborate and produce beneficial results for user communities.
