Project 7 - Communication and Knowledge Exchange

This project has roles pertinent to the internal communications of the Network as well as to developing and growing the network beyond TRIN. In addition, a key principle is for knowledge brokers to facilitate researcher collaborations with key user communities to develop suitable taxonomic products and services, enhancing opportunities for broad adoption and application in environmental management and decision-making.

Challenges

The goal of this project is to enhance awareness, and to improve uptake and application of the taxonomic research.

Seeking solutions

Knowledge brokers are forming a responsive interface between the details of individual TRIN taxonomic research projects and the specific needs of user communities by providing a framework for effective communications:

  • ensuring a broad range of user communities are identified, scoped and considered
  • eliciting user community needs and priorities, and impediments to adoption of research outputs
  • improving researcher understanding of user community needs and interests
  • engaging user communities and researchers in collaborative development of taxonomic products
  • facilitating promotion, awareness and adoption of taxonomic results, outputs and products
  • involving user communities in evaluation and feedback on taxonomic products.

Benefits

Through interactive engagement, research information is made relevant, available and accessible to stakeholders for use in practice, planning and policy making:

  • Researchers understand user community needs and interests.
  • User communities learn about and have input into the development of taxonomic products.
